The course, as the name suggests, provides considerable experience of various driving conditions in some very beautiful countryside, as well as the major towns, especially where the driving test will take place.
Courses are held every week throughout the year at Gloucester, Cheltenham and Ross-on-Wye, and arrangements can also be made for other areas - please ask. Normally three or four pupils attend the course at each centre, making for group support with a confident attitude towards learning to drive. Day Pupils are accepted and subject to their location may be collected from home each day. For further details please go to www.Ldrive.me.uk
Since some pupils are complete beginners whilst others have previous driving experience, including taking a driving test, the courses are tailored to suit every individual's requirements. The variety of courses ranging from 3 to 10 days caters for all aptitudes. You will have to decide which course is best for you.
Over and above the requirements of the normal driving test, which is usually taken on the final day of your course, when time allows we offer further instruction in basic mechanics, night driving, map reading, relevant videos, lectures and discussions of the course as it progresses. These are available on weekdays at no extra charge to residential pupils at Ross-on-Wye and Gloucester only, except by special arrangement, as stated in the brochure.
The price list sets out the cost and length of the courses currently available. Prices are based on single room en suite accommodation plus breakfast, at the extremely pleasant Sunnymount Hotel, Ross-on-Wye, there are many local places to eat in the evenings.
Bed and breakfast accommodation is available also at The Edward Hotel, Gloucester, for £39.50 per night, with en-suite facilities. Evening meals can be booked for a small additional charge at this pleasant hotel which gives excellent value. The hotels and guesthouses in Cheltenham offer bed and breakfast or half-board accommodation in basic or en-suite rooms at slightly higher rates than the other hotels.
All hotels are rated at a minimum of 4 Diamonds by the English Tourist Board and have a warm and friendly atmostphere. They are also within easy reach of the town centre. Friends and partners of pupils are welcome at the hotels should they wish to accompany them - shared rooms are at a reduced charge in Gloucester.
Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
Instruction is available in both manual and automatic (at a small supplementary fee) vehicles. These are varied, ranging from perhaps a Ford Focus and a Nissan Micra to a Suzuki Swift. All vehicles are dual-controlled.
If pupils have achieved the required standard they will take their driving tests in the car they have used during instruction. During the course the pupil normally has the same car and the same instructor.
All our instructors are fully approved by the Department of Transport. Only one pupil is in the car with the instructor at any time.
We welcome everyone aged 17 or over, including those holding provisional licences, foreign licences, motorcycle licences, those with full licences requiring "refresher" courses - even trainee instructors. If you hold none of these, contact us for further advice please telephone 01594 543863 or e-mail us:
Since the Theory Test was introduced by the Driving Standards Agency in 1996, we have made a policy of tutoring our pupils by post, telephone and computer to cope with this part of the driving test. To date all of our pupils have passed the test first time, with many acheiving 100%.
The Theory test fee is £21.50 for those who need to take it, and all candidates now receive their results immediately. Pearsons, organisers of the Theory test, have an excellent CD of the questions, including the Hazard Perception test (which they will be pleased to sell to you for £11.42 if you telephone them); alternatively, a CD "Driving Test Success" produced by Focus Multimedia (01889 570156) (£9.99) is very good and available in many supermarkets, newsagents and media specialists.
